Foton Secures Major Order of 800 Heavy Trucks in Zambia, Strengthening Its Presence in Southeast Africa
Recently, Foton Motor achieved another significant milestone in its overseas business by securing a bulk order of 800 heavy-duty trucks from a major customer in Zambia. This landmark achievement highlights Foton’s long-term commitment to the Southeast African market and demonstrates the growing recognition of its internationalized, intelligent, and high-end commercial vehicle solutions.
Located in the heart of Southeast Africa, Zambia serves as a key transportation corridor connecting major regional ports, including Dar es Salaam Port in Tanzania, Beira Port in Mozambique, Durban Port in South Africa, and Walvis Bay Port in Namibia. Recognizing Zambia’s strategic importance, Foton has continuously invested in the region, building a comprehensive localized operation system covering spare parts supply, technical training, telematics services, warranty support, and on-site customer service. The company aims to establish Zambia as a central hub for expanding its presence throughout Southeast Africa.
To ensure fast and efficient after-sales support, Foton has established its own spare parts warehouses in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Mozambique. This extensive network enables rapid parts distribution and replenishment, effectively addressing common challenges such as spare parts shortages and maintenance delays in cross-border transportation operations.
Foton has established a regional training headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa, while also developing training centers in key markets including Tanzania, Zambia, and Ethiopia. These facilities provide regular training programs covering vehicle maintenance, fleet operation, technical services, and driver management, helping cultivate skilled local professionals and supporting the development of the commercial vehicle industry across Africa.
Foton’s heavy-duty trucks are equipped with dedicated CEM intelligent telematics chips, enabling seamless network coverage across Africa through a single SIM solution. Even in remote areas with limited connectivity, vehicle data can be automatically restored and synchronized once network access becomes available. Fleet operators can monitor vehicle performance, driving routes, fuel consumption, and driver behavior in real time, improving operational efficiency and fleet management capabilities.
The delivered heavy trucks are powered by Cummins engines and have been specially calibrated for Africa’s diverse and challenging road conditions. Offering excellent fuel efficiency while maintaining strong performance, the vehicles are well suited for demanding applications such as cross-border logistics and mining transportation.
Foton provides one of the most competitive warranty programs in the industry, offering up to 3 years or 400,000 kilometers of coverage for its tractor trucks. The warranty covers key powertrain components, providing customers with greater confidence and lower operating risks throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
In key markets such as South Africa and Zambia, Foton has implemented dedicated roadside assistance programs and rapid-response service mechanisms. The company has also established a large professional service team, with experienced technicians stationed near mining sites and major customer operations to provide immediate technical support whenever required.
Rather than relying solely on price competition, Foton continues to win customer trust through reliable products, comprehensive support systems, and long-term market investment. Its commitment to localization and customer service has resulted in growing recognition from logistics companies, mining operators, and fleet customers across Africa.
From January to May this year, Foton’s vehicle exports to Africa exceeded 10,000 units. In May alone, exports of heavy commercial vehicles surpassed 1,000 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 102% and setting a new historical record.
Foton will continue to advance its internationalization, intelligent mobility, and new energy vehicle strategies while further strengthening its investment in Africa. Through localized operations, comprehensive service support, and continuous product innovation, the company aims to become a leading commercial vehicle brand across the African continent and contribute to the region’s economic and infrastructure development.
